Single Speed Cyclocross World Championships 2008
November 8 and 9, 2008

The premier event for single speed cyclocross enthusiasts returned to Portland on November 8th and 9th. A weekend of racing dedicated solely to those who race with a sole gear, Single Speed Cyclocross World Championships (SSCXWC) gathers top-level racers from across the country to compete for the top prize in this category.

Time Trial Qualifier
Around 200 hopeful racers met at Chris King headquarters in NW Portland and rode to the secret time trial location in two waves. The time trial was held in Forest Park, using Saltzman and Fire Lane 5. Times ranged from 12 to 16 minutes, and 101 men and 29 women met the qualifying standards.

Saturday Evening Shenanigans - Hosted by Vanilla Bicycles
The second chance qualifier, in the form of an alley cat style race, allowed a few more people into the main event. Cross Crusade provided a keg, and when that ran out, went and got a second keg. Once those were drained, everyone departed for the pub crawl led by Team Beer.

Single Speed Cyclocross World Championships
Held at Portland International Raceway, the second edition of the Single Speed Cyclocross World Championships had a bunch of new suprises. Everyone got a front row start, Yakima built two course obstacles (a bubble machine run-through and a rotating windmill), and costumes were the norm, not the exception.
